The Project

Following the purchase of G Costa and Patak’s brands by Associated British Foods a new joint brand “AB World Foods” was to be created. This coincided with a lease expiry of G Costa’s premises in Aylesford, Kent, which provided the trigger to create a new office environment reflecting the new AB World Foods brand.

Interactive Space were appointed to manage the following stages:

  • Workplace analysis of the current facilities including¬†space audit
  • Building appraisal and due diligence prior to the acquisition of the new office space
  • Technical support to the in-house teams throughout the lease negotiations prior to exchange of contracts
  • Space planning & interior design
  • Procurement of fit out (including Mechanical & Electrical infrastructure and IT)
  • Project management during the lease negotiations and construction stages
  • Furniture procurement and management of the installation
  • Procurement of removal company through tender and management of the successful bidder

Client Objectives

The move represented a change from tired warehouse style office space to a modern environment within tight budget restrictions. The Client was focused on providing new office space that was functional but not flash. However, it was important to bring back the “food” nature of the business reflecting the various products falling under the AB Foods umbrella. To support this objective a large demonstration kitchen was required, which is used for cookery functions with an auditorium for up to 50 people.

Key Facts

The project started with intense staff consultations through interviews and workshops with representatives from all teams as well as with all board members. This enabled us to identify a detailed brief to establish the requirements for the new office environment.

Once the final property had been identified an early appointment of the main contractor and specialist consultants helped to design the most cost effective solutions by value engineering right until sign off of the final cost plan.

The benefits of the new office environment included:

  • Modern and spacious office environment for staff and visitors
  • Front of house area with branded reception, welcoming area to meet and greet guests and direct meeting room/kitchen access
  • Open plan layout with high staff visibility and low level storage enabling improved staff communications
  • New furniture throughout
  • Improved branding through colourful wall graphics within meeting rooms, break out area and open plan office space
  • State of the Art demonstration kitchen with ability for auditorium style seating
  • New comms room supporting the business needs
  • Flexible layout enabling future growth

Site works started within a week of the lease being signed thus maximizing the rent free period available.
