Background

The global news network RT (formerly Russia TV Today) launch its first channel in December 2005, and now has three news channels broadcasting in English, Spanish and Arabic. RT reaches over 700m people on a global basis.

The network’s dedicated United Kingdom news channel, RT UK, was launched in October 2014. It airs live and pre-recorded original programming to UK audiences.

Before the launch of RT UK, RT’s London-based operations comprised a newsroom only. RT UK needed a bigger office space to accommodate new studios, and took a lease on the 17th floor of Millbank, the iconic 1960s office tower designed by architect Ronald Ward.

The Project

Interactive Space was appointed to carry out the design and fit-out of the Millbank office. RT UK’s brief was to make much of the space open-plan, and to locate a multi-camera studio with a high-tech production gallery, a single camera studio and edit suites.

Key Facts

A key element of our role was to adapt a conventional office floor plate to be suitable for the specific needs of live broadcasting including studio lighting, camera rigs and reflective glass.
