Client Objectives

The project provides more client use of space, and has increased the net usable floor area by over 20%. A key factor in the re-organization of the building was the need for increased legibility and ease of access. A clear route was formed through the building with a central circulation point. The combination of internal re-organization and the additional space provides sufficient usable floor area to accommodate the GDC’s foreseeable future needs.

The Project

Interactive Space was appointed to provide full Project Management Services for the refurbishment and extension to the GDC offices in Wimpole Street. The proposed work consisted of both new-build extensions, coupled with internal reorganization and refurbishment of the existing building.

The GDC staff remained in occupation throughout the duration of the construction works, with construction duration of 69 weeks. The work comprised: significant demolition; new raft foundations, a link building connecting the front building and the mews; complete new services provision; two new mansard roofs, new lift and lift shaft and a complete internal reconfiguration
